Sand to Streets Straw Hat

Spring has aaarriiiiived! And more importantly, Spring Break 🙂 No matter what you’re doing over the break, everyone needs a little somethin’ new to brighten up their wardrobe. Why not try sprucing up something you may already have?!

LJ’s Way, Louisiana Girls in Pearls and I teamed up for a little collaboration on DIY straw hats.  No, we didn’t weave them ourselves… we simply spruced them up. Lauren is a DIY genius and found cute and simple ways to add a little flair to your plain hats just in time to hit the beach. Madison from LGIP is here with your SB packing guide, featuring these adorable accessories. I wanted to show you how to take one of these hats from the sand to the streets. Make it, pack it, wear it!

Pro-tip: Get a beach bag that’s light and durable enough to bring on the beach, but functional and portable enough to use as large purse. It’s so much easier for traveling and that way you can use it on the beach and just sling it over your shoulder for errands and running around town after.

[Apologizing in advance for the multitude of pictures, Madison is just too good with a camera…]

Bathing suit: Michael Star || Cover up: FreePeople || Flip flops: TKees || Sunnies: Krewe || Hat: LJ’s Way Designs

If you know you need to be in public after being at the beach, get a cover up that’ll double as just that as well and an actual outfit. This babydoll FreePeople dress is perfect! It unbuttons all the way down and is incredible light and airy, but also has pockets for functionality.  The red one piece and the orange flip flops are tied in to match with the band around the hat. The sun hat is a must-have for bright beach days!

Dress: FreePeople || Shoes: Marc Fisher || Shorts: Finders Keepers || Bag: a vintage find

When you’re on the go, button up your dress and throw some shorts on under it. Tuck in the front if needed. I snagged these gold Finders Keepers shorts on sale at Love in BR and have yet to get them altered. But that actually worked in my favor because it made my outfit look very Parisian and I’m digging it. Bring an alternative pair of shoes in your bag to dress it up. Y’ALL–these Marc Fisher espadrilles. I’m crazy obsessed. They’re the most comfortable things EVER. My mom wears her pair to the grocery store… They’re selling out so fast everywhere online so if you want to find a pair locally, NK Boutique has them! I wanted to do a little pattern mixing so I grabbed this cool woven clutch. It’s small enough to but in your beach bag so you can switch to it instead of lugging that massive thing around. The boaters hat is the perfect combo of casual and chic. What more could you ask for in a sun hat?!
